Fluorotelomers are fluorocarbon-based oligomers or telomeres, which are produced by telomerization. It (telomerization) is a polymerization reaction between a telogen and at least one of the taxogen molecules such as hexafluoropropene, tetrafluoroethylene, chlorotrifluoroethylene, or vinylidene fluoride. Fluorotelomers are popularly used in applications such as firefighting foams, textile and carpet industries, and food packaging. It is used in niche applications such as manufacturing glossy paper and various industries including metal plating, semiconductor and electronics, surfactants, and liquid crystal additives. Fluorotelomers are used for manufacturing fluorotelomer iodide, fluorotelomer alcohol (FTOH), and fluorotelomer acrylate.
