Market Overview
of Global Polyamide or Nylon Waste Recycling market:The latest research study on the global Polyamide or Nylon Waste Recycling market finds that the global Polyamide or Nylon Waste Recycling market reached a value of USD 556.55 million in 2022. It’s expected that the market will achieve USD 754.58 million by 2028, exhibiting a CAGR of 5.2% during the forecast period.
Polyamide has been used extensively since its creation in the 1940s and is now the second most used synthetic fibre after polyester. China is the largest producer of polyamide, followed by the USA and other Asian countries including Taiwan and South Korea. As a synthetic fibre, polyamide is subject to several sustainability issues as it is dependent on petrochemicals (oil, a non-renewable resource) and, like other man-made fibres, it is not biodegradable. The majority of the world’s polyamide fibre manufacturing occurs in Asia.
Recycled polyamide is a material recovered from waste. Raw material sources for recycled polyamide can be old fishing nets and carpets, or manufacturing waste. Pre-consumer or postconsumer polyamide waste can be recycled through mechanical or chemical processes. The recycling process begins with the collection of polyamide waste: fishing nets, fabrics, used carpets and industrial waste from landfills and oceans around the world. The collected waste is then sorted, cleaned, and recycled through a patented process.
Industry Trends Under COVID-19
The cost and technology of polyamide recycling are big barriers for the market, and cooperation can effectively allocate resources and expand the market.
Working in partnership, Schneider Electric and DSM, are pioneering the use of recycled plastics made from fishing nets. Every year, approximately 640,000 tons of fishing nets are abandoned in the oceans, killing countless marine animals and damaging precious coral reefs. To tackle these challenges, DSM has established an initiative in which these discarded fishing nets are collected, sorted, and repurposed into a new glassfiber-reinforced, recycled-based polyamide with excellent functional properties. It's called Akulon® RePurposed. This versatile, high-performance polyamide is used in a whole range of applications, including of course Schneider Electric's products. Akulon® RePurposed supports local livelihoods. After fishermen discarded fishing nets from the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea, and coastal corners of India, including the beaches, those nets are sorted and cleaned by local communities after which they are taken to an upcycling plant in Pune, India. The new ecosustainab le Q-Cycle yarn is the result of the interaction between BASF’s ChemCycling recycling project and Fulgar’s textile skills and experience.
Strength
Polyamides are widely used in the market
Polyamides are polymers commonly used in the automotive, aerospace, electronics and textile industries. The application market of polyamide is broad, which means that the market potential of recycled polyamide after recycling is also large. Automotive market: bearing cages, gear-shift housings, oil pans, oil separators, cylinder head covers, air intake manifolds, transmission covers, belt protection and tensioners, and more; Electrical appliances: household, gardening and do-it-yourself appliances, and more; Consumer and industrial goods: thermal breaks/window profiles, furniture components, industrial components, sports and leisure equipment, farming tools, two-wheelers, and more. The broad application market will encourage the development of the recycling market.
The need for recycling
The polyamide production process releases nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas that has a huge impact on global warming. These hazardous emissions also negatively impact the health of workers and community populations near industrial sites. In addition, polyamides are not biodegradable, and their use releases microplastics into the environment. Nylon, a synthetic fiber made of polymers, doesn't break down easily and accounts for about 10% of the debris in the ocean. According to the World Society for the Protection of Animals, more than 600,000 tons of fishing gear is dumped into oceans Every year, including nylon nets. The world's demand for polyamides is increasing year by year due to its wide application in various applications in the automotive, electrical,
